Quart.essence String Quartet, Euphonia Orchestra Munich

Born in Bilbao in 1982 into a family of musicians. At the age of 5 he received his first cello lesson from Professor Mihai Besedovski, from whom he continues to receive valuable advice. In 1995 he began his musical training at the Conservatory “Juan Crisóstomo Arriaga” in Bilbao as a student of Eliza Pascu. In 2001 he graduated obtaining the End of Career Honor Prize at the “Conservatorio Superior de Música de El Escorial” with Joseph Gal.

 

Then he enters the Escuela Superior de Música “Reina Sofía” of Madrid in the cello chair of Prof. Natalia Shakovskaya, being granted a scholarship by the Albéniz Foundation and the A.I.E. Foundation (Artists, Performers and Executants). At the School he was awarded with the Prize for the Most Outstanding String Quartet of the 2001-02 academic year.

 

In 2003 he joined the class of Prof. Gustav Rivinius at the "Hochschule für Musik Saar", Germany. After obtaining the Diploma in Violoncello, he studied a Master of Chamber Music with Prof. Tatevik Mokatsian, finishing with Academic Distinction. From 2003 to 2005 he was a scholarship holder of the "Fundación Caixa" in collaboration with the DAAD.

 

He received several national and international awards and participated as an active student in the master classes of Roman Jablonski, Alexander Boyarski, Leo Spirer, Radu Aldulescu, Rainer Schmidt, Bernard Greenhouse and Janos Starker.

 

Diego Hernández Suárez is a founding member of the Et Arsis Piano Quartet, of which he was a member for 12 years. With this ensemble, he completed a postgraduate course in Chamber Music at the "Folkwang Universität der Künste" in Essen (Germany) with Prof. Andreas Reiner (Rosamunde Quartet). They win numerous international competitions and perform concerts and tours in Germany, Spain, Austria, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Latvia, France, Italy and Mexico.

 

The Quartet also founded a Chamber Music Festival in Stara Zagora (Bulgaria), an initiative for which they received the National Prize "Rotary-Club" of Bulgaria in the section Culture and Art for their extraordinary dedication and successful support to the development of young people in Bulgaria.

 

They make several live recordings and studio productions for the most important broadcasters in Germany and Bulgaria. In 2016 they record their first CD with works by Johannes Brahms and Pēteris Vasks, who invites the Quartet to give a concert in the capital of their native country, Riga (Latvia).

 

Throughout these years, Diego Hernández Suárez works with such chamberists as Kristin Merscher, Bruno Canino, Ferenc Rados, Eberhard Feltz, Heime Müller, Hatto Beyerle, the Artemis Quartet, the Vogler Quartet, the Mozart Piano Quartet and the Ysaÿe Quartet.

 

For many years he was taught by the acclaimed musician Prof. Eduard Brunner, from whom he was greatly influenced, and after finishing his studies he had the honor to perform numerous concerts together with him in different chamber ensembles.

 

From 2012 to 2018 he was Assistant Professor at the Chair of Chamber Music at the "Hochschule für Musik Saar".

 

He is a member of the "Orchester der Klangverwaltung", with which he has been conducted by Enoch zu Guttenberg, Kent Nagano, Roberto Abbado, Andrew Parrot, Reinhard Goebel, Paul McCreesh, Paul Goodwin, Thomas Zehetmair, Salvador Mas Conde or Dirk Joeres, playing on the most important stages worldwide such as Philharmonie Berlin, Philharmonie München, Herkulessaal München, Prinzregententheater München, Tonhalle in Düsseldorf, Alte Oper in Frankfurt, NCPA in Beijing, Arts Center in Seoul, Brucknerhaus in Linz, Konzerthaus in Vienna, Sala São Paulo, Gran Teatro Nacional in Lima, Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, Maison Symphonique in Montreal, Roy Thomson Hall in Toronto, Symphony Hall in Boston, Kimmel Center in Philadelphia, Carnegie Hall in New York, Auditorio Nacional in Madrid and the Tchaikovsky Conservatory Hall in Moscow.

 

He is currently a member of the Quart.essence String Quartet and Ensemble Les Essences and has been invited by the prestigious violinist Rebekka Hartmann to join the recently founded chamber orchestra "Euphonia Orchester München" as Solo Violoncello.
